Coming Soon Tour de Millersburg 2012!

The Tour de Millersburg Executive Committee would like to extend our deepest thanks to everyone that contributed to the great success of the 2011 race weekend. From the cyclists to the volunteers, sponsors, officials, and host families you all made the 5th Annual Tour, the best one yet!
We had 205 registered racers this year. The weather on Saturday was overcast, perfect for the Time Trial and it held out for the inaugural Cataldo Muggio Memorial Criterium on Saturday afternoon. The Muggio family had over 100 members present to receive a proclamation naming August 13, 2011 Cataldo Muggio Memorial Criterium Day in Millersburg Borough. There was rain on Sunday morning, but it did not dampen our spirits, as we still had a great day of racing across the countryside.
$5,000 in Tour proceeds will be given to worthy community projects or organizations through a grant process. Click here to view our Grant Guidelines. We have already awarded $1,000 in scholarships to two college bound Millersburg High School seniors. Some of this year’s other proceeds will be invested into the purchase of new items for the race next year including radios, starting blocks, vertical banners, and advertising.
This event, a legacy of the 2007 Millersburg Bicentennial Celebration, continues to bring the community together as volunteers - numbering over 150, host families - totaling more than 35 (housing over 110 cyclists), sponsors - which contributed nearly $14,000, and spectators that come out to experience the racing!
There are multiple benefits to bringing approximately 400 visitors to Millersburg for a weekend. Economically speaking the race production cost included $10,000 spent locally. The racers added an estimated $20,000 for food, gas, and lodging. And with the planned distribution of $5,000, the total local economic impact of the race is in the neighborhood of $35,000!
Please visit www.tourdemillersburg.com for more information about the race, including how to volunteer and for a list of our sponsors, including our top five: Dauphin County Tourism Grant approved by Commissioners (Haste, Pries, and Hartwick), The Troutman Group (Troutman Chevrolet, Buick, GMC, William C. Troutman and Dorothy T. Troutman Foundation, Lykens Valley Golf Course, Shanks Restaurant), Bradenbaugh-Hottenstein Trust, Bolig’s Propane, and a donor that wishes to remain anonymous.
We are looking forward to the Tour’s 6th installment next year!
With heartfelt thanks,
Tour de Millersburg Executive Committee
Christopher Dietz, Julia Hoffman, Skip Wingard, Jeff Fegley, Bunny Daub, and Lee Barkus
